Pet Wellness & Vaccinations
We pamper our puppy and kitten patients, adore our adults, and celebrate our seniors. And because we understand that needs change with age, we tailor our treatment plans to best meet your pets where they are on their journey. Regular preventative medicine, along with heartworm and flea and tick control, is key in giving your pet a long and healthy life. We recommend yearly comprehensive wellness exams for adult pets. Seniors should be seen bi-annually.
Don’t forget your pet doesn’t age the same way as humans do, so it’s important that you know the status of their health every step of the way. This is the best way to prevent disease or catch it early when it’s more likely to be treatable.
Vaccinations are a crucial aspect of proactive preventative care. Our vaccination programs are designed to protect your pet from preventable and potentially deadly illnesses.
While any medical treatment involves some degree of risk, in the case of vaccinations, the benefits far outweigh any potential side effects. Adverse reactions are rare and usually mild and short-term when they do occur.
Which vaccines should your pet have? “Core” vaccines are those recommended and possibly mandated by law for most pets. Core vaccines include:
- Rabies (dogs and cats)
- DA2PPV – Distemper, Hepatitis, Adenovirus 2, Parvo, and Parainfluenza (dogs)
- FVRCP – Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus and Panleukopenia (cats)
Another non-core but highly suggested vaccination for cats includes FeLV to protect against feline leukemia. For dogs, bordetella, Lyme, and canine influenza shots are recommended if they frequent dog parks, boarding kennels, or any place where they socialize with other canines.
It’s also important to note that even pets who live primarily indoors should be vaccinated, as they can still be exposed to the disease.
